GREECE, N.Y. (AP) - Sen. Charles Schumer will be at a marina outside Rochester to urge the federal government to fund a project to improve a Lake Ontario bay.
Schumer will be at the Braddock Bay Marina in the town of Greece early Wednesday afternoon to call on the Environmental Protection Agency to fund the $9 million Braddock Bay Restoration Project.
The erosion of a former barrier beach at the bay’s outlet has led to silt buildups that have impacted channel navigation for boaters who dock their vessels at the marina and others who seeking access to the bay just west of Rochester.
The Buffalo-based U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is considering a plan to restore the bay’s ecosystem by building a new barrier beach.
Schumer says building the breakwater will make the bay more accessible for boaters and other recreational users.
