SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes has officially filed for re-election.
Reyes made the announcement in a news conference Wednesday morning.
The Republican was appointed by Gov. Gary Herbert in December to run the vacant office until an election this fall. He replaced Republican John Swallow, who resigned after nearly 11 months in office.
Swallow resigned after he was inundated with investigations and accusations of wrongdoing but has maintained his innocence.
Reyes, who ran against Swallow in 2012, has been in office for almost three months.
Democrat Charles Stormont, an attorney working in the Utah attorney general’s office civil division, has announced his plans to challenge Reyes for the office.
Stormont called Reyes a skilled attorney but says he has more experience working as government attorney.
