BOSTON (AP) - In a story March 18 about a rally at Northeastern University, The Associated Press reported erroneously that 6,000 students had signed a petition to reinstate a suspended Muslim advocacy group. The petition had 6,000 signatures, but not all of those who signed were students.

Additionally, the story erroneously described Students for Justice in Palestine. The organization says it works to raise awareness about Palestinians, but it is not focused on Muslim advocacy.

Protesters rally at Northeastern University opposing suspension of Palestinian justice group

BOSTON (AP) - More than 100 protesters bearing signs and Palestinian flags have rallied at Northeastern University in Boston to oppose the suspension of a Palestinian advocacy group.

Protesters argue that the university has placed harsher restrictions on Students for Justice in Palestine than other undergraduate groups on campus. Advocates say the suspension is unjustified and a suppression of free speech. Almost 6,000 people signed a petition to reinstate the group.

In a written statement, Northeastern said it suspended the organization for repeatedly breaking university policy. The school says it issued several warnings to the group before the suspension.

Two members of the organization had disciplinary hearings Tuesday for allegedly having unauthorized guests in their dorm. The organization says they were singled out. The school says the issue is unrelated and the students don’t face suspension or expulsion.
