PHOENIX (AP) - In his third State of the City address, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton outlined an ambitious set of goals for the nation’s sixth-largest city.

Stanton says he wants to see Phoenix be a global economic competitor by ending its dependence on construction.

He also said Wednesday that Phoenix must create an environment that fosters good workers and companies.

Stanton’s most ambitious goal for the near future is a pledge to double exports to Mexico in five years and double all exports in a decade.

Arizona has historically lagged behind other states when it comes to exports to Mexico.

Stanton also says Phoenix will open its first trade office in Mexico City later this year.

He plans to travel Thursday morning to Mexico, his eighth trip there in less than three years.
