CHICAGO (AP) - Blackhawks star Patrick Kane is expected to miss about three weeks with a lower-body injury sustained during a 4-0 win over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night.
Kane, the team’s leading scorer, was injured when he collided with St. Louis’ Brenden Morrow at 7:56 of the second period. Kane was favoring his left leg as he headed to the dressing room under his own power. He didn’t return for the third.
After the game, Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said Kane might be sidelined around three weeks.
Morrow fell into Kane after he was checked by Chicago’s Sheldon Brookbank deep in the Blues zone.
“It was a freak play,” said Quenneville, who earned his 700th NHL win. “We’ve been fortunate most of the year. We’ll deal with it.”
Kane entered with 29 goals and 39 assists in 68 games. Then he set up Duncan Keith’s power-play goal in the first period.
“He’s a special player,” Quenneville said. “We’ll work our way through this. It’s a huge loss for us.”
