SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Notre Dame has hired Dartmouth’s women’s soccer coach Theresa Romagnolo (roh-muh-NELL-oh) to replace Randy Waldrum, who left to become coach of the expansion Houston Dash of the National Women’s Soccer League.

Romagnolo coached at Dartmouth the past three seasons, posting a 25-22-3 record. Her best season was in 2012, guiding the Big Green to a 13-4 record - the most victories by Dartmouth since 2000. She previously was an assistant at Stanford when the Cardinal posted a 70-4-3 record and advanced to the national championship game in 2009 and 2010.

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick says Romagnolo has demonstrated commitment to educational and competitive excellence and he’s confident she will help the Irish.

Waldrum coached the Irish for 15 seasons, leading them to national championships in 2004 and 2010.
