PHOENIX (AP) - Maricopa County Supervisors plan to name a replacement for Rep. Ruben Gallego next week.

Gallego resigned from the Arizona House of Representatives last week. He’s running for the 7th Congressional District seat currently held by Rep. Ed Pastor, who is retiring.

Supervisors have named three people to a selection panel that will screen candidates for consideration. People interested in the seat have until noon Wednesday to submit their names to the county. The committee will interview candidates Thursday and then send three names for the board to consider when it meets Monday.

Gallego is a Democrat and represented District 27 in south Phoenix. State law says nominees must also be Democrats, eligible to vote and live in the district.
