LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Craig Owens scored 13 points to lead Louisville Trinity to a 55-41 win over Owensboro Wednesday in the first round of the Kentucky boys Sweet 16 state basketball tournament at Rupp Arena.

The Shamrocks (30-5), the Region 7 winner and state champion in 2012, used a 10-0 run in the first quarter to gain control and lead the rest of the way.

Trinity will play Hopkinsvile in the quarterfinals at noon Friday. The Tigers defeated South Oldham 83-62 in the first Wednesday game.

Trey Ivory and Jax Levitch followed Owens with 10 points each for the Shamrocks, who led by 18 in the third quarter and scored 28 points in the post.

Owensboro (21-11), winner of the 3rd Region, was led by Darion Morrow with 13 points. Jaylin Kelly followed with 12 and Justin Miller scored 11 for the Red Devils.
