HINTON, W.Va. (AP) - Someone hacked a Hinton area woman’s Facebook account, posted a photo of a dead dog on it and claimed that she had killed it, Hinton Police Chief D.S. Snavely said Wednesday.
Hinton police began investigating after receiving numerous reports late Tuesday night about the photo, which showed the dog lying on railroad tracks, Snavely said.
“I want to first say that this case is under investigation and we are looking into it seriously. However, we feel confident that at this point that (the woman) did not post this on Facebook as we have evidence that her account was hacked and being used by another person(s),” Snavely said.
He said that a large amount of negative attention had been directed at the woman on the social media site because of the post.
“We have no reason to believe that she hurt any animal in any way,” Snavely said.
Snavely said he released information about the case to let the public know that the woman’s account had been hacked.
“We are not releasing any other details at this point on this case at this time due to the fact that the case is ongoing,” he said.
