NEW YORK (AP) - New renderings for a redesign of New York’s LaGuardia Airport show a central terminal that is one-third larger than the current one.

The New York Post (https://bit.ly/1j4Yy7p ) reports that the proposal includes room for a future direct subway line to the Queens airport.

The redesign was submitted by the Manhattan design firm Neoscape.

The airport now handles double the amount of passengers for which it was built. About 12 million people pass through the airport annually. The number is expected to rise to 18 million by 2030.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport, expects to pick a firm for the project in the next few weeks.

The makeover is expected to be completed by 2021.
