OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A pair of debates over whether Congress should convene a convention to consider a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution will be held this week in Oklahoma.
Supporters and opponents of the idea of a national constitutional convention will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of the plan during a debate at noon Wednesday at Olivet Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. A second debate will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Assembly of God Church in Norman.
Both events are open to the public.
So far, 20 states have petitioned Congress for a balanced budget amendment. A bill seeking to add Oklahoma to that list narrowly cleared a House committee, but wasn’t heard on the floor.
