Fire is tearing through a recycling plant in Brooklyn, and New York firefighters say it’ll probably take a while to extinguish.
They’re not able to get inside the structure and have to spray water from the outside only, NBC New York reported. A witness told local news station that the exterior walls of the plant have crumbled to the ground.
“When these fires are like this, where the buildings become unstable, we can’t get in close enough to quickly put it out,” said FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Jack Mooney in the NBC report.
The fire broke out late Tuesday night, but firefighters on Wednesday were still battling the flames.
“It’ll take a long time to put this out,” Mr. Mooney said in the NBC report. “It’s just a deep-seated fire. It’ll take a lot of water. Unfortunately we just don’t have that good an access.”
