RUMFORD, Maine (AP) - Police say a woman has been shot by a police officer in the Maine town of Rumford.
The Sun Journal reports (bit.ly/OuQfsh) that a suicidal woman attacked police officers who were sent to check on her Tuesday afternoon after she telephoned a crisis hotline. She was shot twice.
Oxford County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Chris Wainwright tells the newspaper that the victim is being treated at Rumford Hospital.
Steve McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department says the victim’s condition wasn’t immediately known.
Investigators from the Maine State Police and attorney general’s office are investigating.
In Maine, the attorney general investigates whenever an officer uses lethal force in the line of duty.
