DURANGO, Colo. (AP) - The city of Durango has ordered the Durango Gun Club to abandon a requirement that its 700 members join the National Rifle Association or leave.

The nonprofit group has leased free from the city since 1963.

The Durango Herald reports (https://tinyurl.com/lbnjosu ) club secretary and treasurer Joe Perino says the decision to require members to belong to the NRA is financial, not political. He says being a 100 percent NRA club makes the local club eligible for NRA grants, allowing members to make improvements to its shooting ranges.
