FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A Fargo police lieutenant who killed himself was on the verge of being fired.

KFGO radio reports (https://bit.ly/1nAqmXB ) police documents indicate Lt. Jeff Skuza was under investigation for failing to report the accidental discharge of his Taser on Feb. 14. The report says Skuza attempted to cover it up by hiding the cartridge and wires, and then took part in the investigation of who was responsible.

The department’s three deputy chiefs had recommended that Skuza be fired. A letter from Police Chief Keith Ternes says Skuza’s deception was “deliberate,” ’’surprising” and “disappointing.”

Officials say Skuza called police dispatchers a week ago and asked them to send officers to a cemetery south of Fargo, where his body was discovered. They say he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
