A suicide bomber struck at a busy market setting in the northern section of Afghanistan on Tuesday, leaving at least 15 dead.
The bomber hit during the well-attended bazaar in Faryab province, the governor said to Voice of America. In addition to the 15 who have died, another 40 or so were injured, he reported.
No group claimed immediate responsibility for the bombing, VOA said. But members of the Taliban have vowed to unleash a wave of attacks throughout the country, aimed at interrupting the ballot process for a new president, set for April 5.
The incoming president — who will replace U.S.-backed Hamid Karzai — will have to deal with the security agreement that’s been in the wings to determine whether foreign troops will remain in the country past this year.
