ATLANTA (AP) - A historic Atlanta building is being torn down because of damage it sustained in a crash between a bus and a delivery truck.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (https://bit.ly/1icpHWM ) the late 19th-century building, which originally housed a Baptist church, was deemed unstable and condemned several months after the November crash that killed a FedEx delivery driver. The delivery truck and a transit bus crashed into the building’s foundation.
Atlanta Fire and Rescue Department spokeswoman Janet Ward says the building, which had most recently housed a nightclub, will be demolished soon.
Officials consider the building so unstable that police plan to close a portion of Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard to traffic as long as it’s still standing because of a danger of falling debris.
