DALLAS (AP) - A North Texas doctor has been sentenced to almost five years in federal prison and ordered to pay about $9 million in restitution to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services after being convicted of health care fraud.
U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldana said in a news release that 54-year-old Nicolas Alfonso Padron of Garland was sentenced Monday. He pleaded guilty in September 2013 to one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud stemming from his role as medical director of A Medical House Calls, which provided home doctor visits to Medicare patients.
His two co-defendants who owned the company were convicted last year on one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and 13 counts of health care fraud. Their sentencing is set for March 31.
