ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - A judge has approved the settlement of a lawsuit stemming from the deaths of two teenagers who were struck and killed by a train in Montgomery County.

The families of 16-year-old Steven Robertson and 17-year-old Grayson Hoops sued Norfolk Southern Railway Co. and Norfolk Southern Corp. alleging negligence. The high school juniors were killed in February 2011 as they walked on a railroad near Elliston.

Each family had sought a judgment of $10 million, plus punitive damages.

The Roanoke Times (https://bit.ly/1gqU6MF ) reports that each family will receive more than $120,000 under the settlement approved last week.

Norfolk Southern had argued that the plaintiffs failed to state viable claims.
