BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The Buffalo Sabres have called up goalie Nathan Lieuwen from the minors to fill in for injured Michal Neuvirth.

The move was made Sunday, before Buffalo hosted the Montreal Canadiens.

Coach Ted Nolan said Neuvirth complained of a lower body injury during warm-ups before the Sabres’ 4-1 loss at the New York Islanders on Saturday. Nolan listed Neuvirth day to day, but said it was too early to determine whether he’ll join the team when it opens a five-game road trip at Calgary on Tuesday.

Neuvirth stopped 51 shots in a 4-2 loss at Carolina on Thursday. The Sabres acquired him in a trade with Washington on March 5.

Lieuwen was set to serve as Jhonas Enroth’s backup against Montreal. He has a 17-11-2 record with AHL Rochester this season.
