DALLAS (AP) - A rare 165-year-old map of Texas that’s been in the same family for generations has sold for $149,000.

Officials with Dallas-based Heritage Auctions say the 1849 document was sold Saturday to a buyer who does not wish to be publicly identified.

The item, considered the first official map of Texas after it became a state in 1845, was offered to experts last spring by Patrick Martin. The 66-year-old retired architect showed the map at a Heritage appraisal event in Birmingham, Ala., near his home.

The lithograph was signed by Jacob De Cordova, a land agent who commissioned an employee of the Texas General Land Office to create the map. The map, among only a handful known to exist, measures about 32 by 35 inches and features counties in various colors.
