TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Lansing used a suffocating defensive performance to hold Highland Park to 10 points in the second half, capturing its first Kansas Class 5A boys state title in program history and capping an undefeated season with a 48-27 win on Saturday.
Lansing (25-0) pulled away in the second half after holding a slim 20-17 halftime lead.
The Lions outscored Highland Park 28-10 in the second half, as the Scots shot just 16 percent from the field after the break. Lansing led 31-20 after three quarters, holding Highland Park (23-2) to just three points in the third period.
Excluding the opening quarter when Highland Park scored 12 points, the Scots were unable to score in double digits in any of the other three quarters.
Khalil Bailey had 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead Lansing. Joe Schneider added 10 points.
Jahmal McMurray scored nine points to lead Highland Park.
