SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - A proposal by Indiana University-South Bend administrators to turn over the operation of the campus’ child-car center to a vendor has alarmed some parents who rely on its services.
The university is seeking proposals due April 1 from outside vendors to manage and operate the center, which is largely used by IU-South Bend students who have children.
Ken Baierl, the chief of staff of the campus’ chancellor, says the center is subsidized by the university because it operates at a deficit each year. He says the center’s 2012-2013 deficit was $140,000.
Student Lisa Carr is circulating a campus petition that supports the child-care center’s current operations. She tells the South Bend Tribune (https://bit.ly/PDGh8N ) that if the center her two children use is outsourced she fears that its quality will suffer.
