NEW YORK (AP) - Smoke is still drifting from an explosion that destroyed two buildings in East Harlem.
Plumes of white smoke wafted from the site as emergency crews continued early Friday to sift through the debris searching for those still missing.
The smoke could be smelled a block away from the explosion site.
Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday acknowledged there “have been a lot of concerns about air quality.” He said the city’s Department of Environmental Protection was monitoring the air at the site and the surrounding blocks.
De Blasio called on residents in the area, especially seniors and children, to limit their exposure by staying indoors.
