LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) - A second Republican has entered the race to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Ron Kind in western Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District.

Chris Anderson, a former aide to Republican Sen. Ron Johnson, announced his campaign on Thursday. The La Crosse Tribune reported Friday (https://tiny.cc/ywspcx) that Anderson says his campaign will focus on the growing federal debt, President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul law and lingering unemployment.

Republican Ken Van Doren, a retired building contractor and former Mauston City Council member, is also running.

The 28-year-old Anderson is a native of Barron and served in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan. He joined Johnson’s staff in 2012.

Kind’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment. Kind has been in Congress since 1997.
