JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Hinds County Democratic Party officials fear changes in city and county precinct locations will further confuse voters already having to learn the ins and outs of voter ID requirements.
The Clarion-Ledger reports (https://on.thec-l.com/1np0Cxa) Democratic Executive Committee Chairwoman Jacqueline Amos made a plea Thursday to county supervisors, asking them to hold off on changes to precincts or mergers of existing polling places until general elections are held in November.
Two recent polling changes approved by supervisors and the city of Jackson will be in effect for Jackson’s April 8 mayoral election, with a possible runoff set for April 22.
Although some election commissioners want more precinct changes, Election Commission Chairwoman Connie Cochran said that can’t be done before June because of a 30- to 60-day waiting period required by law.
