HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - State police say a man found dead at Selfridge Air National Guard Base apparently became disoriented in the cold and succumbed to the elements.

Police issued the update Friday, a day after a military member found the man’s body outside a building on the west side of the base in Macomb County’s Harrison Township. Police say the man has been identified as a 22-year-old from Fair Haven in St. Clair County.

Police say the man jumped a fence to get onto base property northeast of Detroit. He attempted to gain access to a building and vehicles to get out of the cold, but was unable to do so. Police say that alcohol is believed to be a factor in the death.

The military says it stepped up security afterward.
