OPINION:
Not until a major problem occurs are big problems revealed about an airline (“Interpol: Passports on flights must be checked, but no country checked,” Web, March 9).
It has been reported that Malaysia Airlines didn’t do a routine check with Interpol to make sure no one boarded the plane with stolen passports. It was recently discovered that Flight 370 had two passengers traveling with false identities.
Authorities also found that the junior co-pilot occasionally invited passengers into the cockpit, which for security reasons is never recommended.
In addition, Malaysia Airlines has been facing serious financial difficulties in recent years.
I am afraid that in spite of the airline’s previous reputation for high standards of service and safety, this flight mystery could be the death knell of the company.
