German authorities say they’ve caught a male citizen who spent time in Syria last year fighting for hardline Islamists.
A judge on Friday ordered that the German citizen, 19, be kept in custody for possible indictment for terrorist-related charges, The Associated Press reported. He’s known only as Kreshnik B. in court documents.
He’s suspected of going to Syria in July 2013 and taking part in weapons training that was given by a group that broke from al Qaeda, called the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
He’s also accused of using that training to take part in fighting while tasked on guard duty, AP said.
