LAS VEGAS (AP) - A Nevada judge stripped two former foster parents of the ability to take in children, and sentenced them to five years’ probation for neglecting and endangering two foster boys in their care.

A prosecutor sought prison time, while the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1eAhwzD ) that Waldo Othmar Hernandez and Andrea Diane Hernandez wept and sought leniency Thursday from Clark County District Court Judge Valorie Vega.

Waldo Hernandez faces possible deportation to El Salvador after he and Andrea Hernandez pleaded guilty Dec. 9 to felony child neglect or endangerment causing substantial bodily harm.

Officials reported finding a 17-month-old boy in their care last September with burn scars from a June diaper change outdoors atop a sizzling hot black metal surface, and a 2-month-old baby with a severe skin infection.
