Authorities have caught one of the U.S. Army’s most sought-after fugitives, a 59-year-old man who escaped from Fort Leavenworth, Kan., in 1977, where he had been serving out a 23-year sentence for premeditated murder and aggravated assault.
James Robert Jones, 59, was arrested in Pompano Beach as he reported to his place of work, the U.S. Marshals Service said, Fox News reported. He’s been listed on the Army’s top 15 “Most Wanted” list for years.
“I knew it would catch up to me one day,” Jones said during his capture, Marshals Service spokesman Barry Golden said to WFQR-TV.
Jones was sentenced in 1974, while he was the rank of private.
Investigators used facial-recognition technology to locate him, Fox News reported.
