RETRIAL SET FOR FLORIDA MAN IN LOUD MUSIC KILLING

A Florida man convicted of attempted murder in a confrontation over loud music won’t be sentenced until after his retrial on a murder charge. A Duval County judge made that decision Friday and also scheduled Michael Dunn’s new trial for May 5. Dunn had been scheduled this month to be sentenced for attempted murder and firing into a vehicle, but his attorney was concerned that statements Dunn makes at a sentencing hearing could be used against him in his second trial.

FLORIDA COURT REJECTS APPEALS FROM DOUBLE-MURDERER

The Florida Supreme Court is rejecting a series of last-minute appeals from convicted murderer Robert L. Henry. Henry was convicted of killing two Broward County women in November 1987. He is scheduled to be executed March 20. The court on Friday unanimously rejected Henry’s appeals including one that argued the state’s current lethal injection procedure is unconstitutional.

When they landed in Fort Lauderdale early Friday, they told local media outlets that the emergency aboard US Airways Flight 1702 was over quickly. They said the plane momentarily got off the ground before slamming back down, and people smelled smoke before getting out into the cold. Many ran away from the plane because they feared it would explode. Officials say a tire on the plane’s front landing gear blew out, forcing the pilot to abort takeoff at Philadelphia International Airport.
