POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) - A Hudson Valley man has been sentenced to 44 years to life in state prison for killing a 67-year-old woman whose body was found in her home on Thanksgiving Day 2012.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports (https://pojonews.co/1lZofLe ) that a judge called 37-year-old Justin Curran “a whirlwind of terror” during his sentencing Wednesday. Curran was sentenced for more than a dozen felony convictions, including second-degree murder and assault.

Curran was convicted last year of murdering Laurie Ferguson inside her mobile home in the town of Hyde Park. Her son found her body on Thanksgiving Day when she didn’t show up for a holiday lunch.

Authorities say Curran didn’t know Ferguson, a grandmother of six.

Curran’s lawyer said he was addicted to opiate painkillers at the time of the killing.
