Unemployment and job creation is the top issue for Americans, said a poll released Thursday.
A Gallup poll found that 19 percent of respondents ranked unemployment as the top problem facing the country today, down from 23 percent in February, when Congress was voting on extending long-term unemployment benefits that expired Dec. 28.
Other top issues include dissatisfaction with the government and Congress, with 18 percent of people saying that’s the biggest program, and 17 percent ranked the poor economy in general as the top problem.
Other top issues for Congress — including health care reform, the deficit and immigration — were not among the top three issues, but did crack the top 12, the poll said.
Poll results are from telephone interviews with more than 1,000 adults across the country between March 6-9. The margin of error is 4 percent.
