Rep. Gregory W. Meeks, New York Democrat, recently called upon former Vice President Dick Cheney to “keep his mouth shut” after Mr. Cheney criticized President Obama for being “weak” on the Ukrainian crisis (“Democratic Rep. Meeks: Dick Cheney should ’keep his mouth shut,’” Web, March 10).

I have a suggestion for Mr. Meeks: Since Mr. Cheney isn’t going to “shut up” for anyone, why doesn’t he man up and symbolically silence him?

Wouldn’t the best way to do that be to finally go to the House floor and press formal charges against both President Bush and Mr. Cheney for the years-long Democratic-led charge that these two men “lied” us into the Iraq War?

Currently, there are several congressional inquiries over the Obama administration’s transgressions. In contrast, Democrats have relentlessly harped on what they consider the mother of all presidential scandals, but never pulled the trigger with a formal investigation.

Until Mr. Meeks walks the talk and finally backs up Democrats’ collective incendiary rhetoric of “Bush lied,” he ought to keep his own mouth shut.
