George Zimmerman’s parents have filed a lawsuit against comedian Roseanne Barr, claiming she attempted to cause a riot outside their home by posting their residential address on Twitter.
Robert Zimmerman Sr. and his wife, Gladys, said Miss Barr tried to “incite a lynch mob to descend” onto their Lake Mary, Fla., home by sending the address to her 231,000 Twitter followers, the New York Daily News reported.
The couple said they had to actually flee their home one night in March 2012 in fear of “vigilante justice.”
Miss Barr had tweeted the address before the couple’s son, George, was arrested and charged with the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Mr. Zimmerman was ultimately acquitted.
In addition to the couple’s address, Miss Barr tweeted another inflammatory message: “If Zimmerman isn’t arrested I’ll [re-tweet] his address again- maybe go 2 his house myself.”
Her tweets came after Hollywood director Spike Lee also tried to post the location of the Zimmerman home, but re-tweeted the wrong address. He was also sued by the residents of that address.
