ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he expects charter schools to be among the most controversial and complex issues to be addressed in the state budget.
Cuomo made the comments Thursday on public radio’s “Capitol Pressroom” as the state Senate and Assembly detail the policies they want to see in the budget due April 1. Cuomo and the legislative leaders will try to negotiate a final budget in the coming weeks.
Charter schools emerged as an issue recently after New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio reversed a decision by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s administration to give three charter schools rent-free space in public school buildings.
Cuomo last week gave his full-throated support to charter schools at a massive rally at the state Capitol.
