LANCASTER, Ky. (AP) - The reinstatement of a central Kentucky mayor has been put on hold until a judge reconsiders his decision in the case.

The City Council in Lancaster voted 6-0 in November to remove Mayor Barbara Powers. She fought the decision and Garrard Circuit Judge Hunter Daugherty ruled last week that she should be reinstated because the City Council lacked evidence of misconduct to justify her removal.

The Advocate-Messenger (https://bit.ly/1klMkZD) reports an attorney for the city sent a letter Wednesday to the judge asking him to reconsider the decision.

“She cannot resume office,” attorney Hadden Dean said, until Daugherty issues a ruling on the council’s request. After that, both sides have 30 dates to decide whether to appeal.

Daugherty’s order said Powers “acted in good faith,” that “the court cannot find substantial evidence that the hostility at issue is any more than a personality dispute which is not, as a matter of law, sufficient to support the removal of an elected official from her office for misconduct.”

Power’s attorney said he didn’t think the request would change the judge’s mind.

“I can’t imagine he’s going to change his decision,” attorney Bradley Guthrie said. “I think Mayor Powers has been vindicated. She did not do anything wrong - certainly did not do anything that would have supported her removal from office.”
