LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities are hunting for a convicted burglar a day after he posed as another inmate and escaped from a downtown Los Angeles jail just hours after sentencing.

Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Parker says 37-year-old Christopher Lee Brown remained free Thursday night, after escaping Twin Towers jail late Wednesday.

Parker says the discovery was made during the night during an inmate count, and video later verified Brown’s escape through an inmate release and reception area. Without giving specifics, he said required security procedures may not have been followed.

Earlier, Brown had been sentenced to more than four years in prison for stealing laptop computers from the Alhambra office of a hospital chain.

Parker says Brown has no known address but has previous arrests in Orange, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
