HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut’s Air National Guard is receiving $14.6 million in federal funds to prepare the Bradley Air National Guard base for its new mission of flying cargo aircraft.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Thursday the funding will cover improvements to the main aircraft hangar, renovations to the operations building, relocating a munitions storage facility and modernizing a liquid oxygen storage facility.
Malloy said approximately $1.88 million was also approved to upgrade the fire protection system and repair the vehicle maintenance facility at the Air National Guard’s facilities in Orange.
In November 2012, the state sought to house the C-130H Hercules cargo aircraft in hopes of securing a reliable flying mission for the state’s Air National Guard for many years.
The 103rd Airlift Wing has received the first four of eight aircraft.
