BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Chittenden County Transportation Authority bus drivers plan to go on strike Monday after rejecting a proposal to resolve differences through binding arbitration, a neutral dispute resolution process using a third-party.
The union rejected CCTA’s contract offer on Wednesday and voted to authorize a strike.
On Thursday the union turned down CCTA’s offer to go to binding arbitration.
The drivers carry about 9,500 people per day in the state’s largest county.
Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger had urged the union to accept the binding arbitration proposal, saying many residents, including some school children, will face transportation challenges if there is a strike.
