ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The New York state Senate and Assembly are expected to vote on separate budget proposals.
The “one-house” measures scheduled to be taken up Wednesday will detail what the two houses want in the state budget due April 1. Negotiations among legislative leaders and Gov. Andrew Cuomo will intensify over the rest of the month as the deadline closes in.
The Assembly has already revealed that their proposal will include a property tax “circuit breaker” instead of the rebate program sought by Cuomo.
Cuomo’s budget proposal to “freeze” property taxes through rebates to homeowners in municipalities and school districts that meet cost-cutting and shared-services goals is unpopular with many state lawmakers.
