Republican Sen. Marco Rubio says Democrats are “secretly and not so secretly” hoping to use Obamacare’s missteps as leverage in seeking a single-payer system of government-run health insurance.

“I believe single payer is always the goal that they wanted. In fact, I think Obamacare was designed to eventually lead us to that point,” Mr. Rubio of Florida told Breitbart.com in an exclusive interview.

Several Democrats have openly said that a single-payer system would be preferable to the United States’ current system of health care delivery.

Such a system faces stiff opposition from Republicans. In the interview, Mr. Rubio said the system would be “Obamacare on steroids.”

“Single payer basically is the government takes over health care, becomes the only insurance company in America and as a result it controls everything from who gets care to what kind of care you get,” Mr. Rubio told Breitbart.com, adding, “it would completely eviscerate the quality of our health care.”
