MCENTIRE JOINT NATIONAL GUARD BASE, S.C. (AP) - Fighter jets from the South Carolina Air National Guard are taking part in an air defense exercise near the coast.
Pilots from the guard’s 169th Fighter Wing are scheduled to fly Wednesday morning in the area of North Charleston and Myrtle Beach.
Officials say the exercises include the jets escorting a single-engine aircraft belonging to the South Carolina Civil Air Patrol.
Citizens should not be troubled by the sight as it is part of a routine mission for the wing of F-16 jets based at McEntire Joint National Guard Base near Eastover.
The guard coordinates its exercises with the Federal Aviation Administration. The practice is needed so the guard may respond to airborne threats over the United States.
