IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (AP) - It’s been a record-setting cold winter in the Upper Peninsula community of Iron Mountain.

The National Weather Service says the average temperature for December through February in Iron Mountain was 7.2 degrees. The Daily News (https://bit.ly/1lXu2kr ) says the previous record was 8.7 degrees in 1903-1904.

Weather service meteorologist Kevin Crupi in Marquette says 2014 saw the coldest February in Iron Mountain since 1904.

The weather service says February daily lows at Iron Mountain-Kingsford were zero or below for 22 days. Crupi says the average temperature in February was 5.9 degrees, 11.6 degrees below normal.
