MARION, Ohio (AP) - A man killed his 41-year-old wife with a knife, then hid her body in the basement of their home and cleaned up the scene with help from his 19-year-old mistress, police said as the pair was charged.
David Shockey, 37, of Marion, was charged Tuesday with aggravated murder in Marion Municipal Court and was being held on $2 million bond. His alleged accomplice, Danielle Crokie of Marion, was charged with obstructing justice and was being held on $1 million bond. Each also is charged with a felony count of tampering with evidence.
Shockey’s attorney, Robert E. Wilson, said Wednesday that he was just appointed to the case and it was too soon for him to comment. The court had no attorney listed for Crokie.
Police allege Shockey planned to murder Shelly Shockey, his wife of less than four years, and killed her Sunday at their home in Marion, roughly 45 miles north of Columbus.
Police were contacted when friends didn’t hear from Shockey after she returned from a trip to Michigan, where she had mentioned her belief that her husband was having an affair, The Columbus Dispatch reported. An officer who went to the house on Monday looking for Shelly Shockey became suspicious while talking to her husband.
Detectives returned to search the house and found the wrapped-up body, apparently stabbed, Marion police said.
“When we found her, she was buried under boxes and totes and blankets,” police Maj. Jay McDonald told The Marion Star. He said David Shockey originally told police that his wife had left him for someone else.
