NATO forces have sent in the surveillance craft to fly over Poland and Romania and keep an eye on developments in nearby Ukraine.
The 28-nation military group said members have sent in two Airborne Warning and Control System reconnaissance planes from bases in Germany and in Britain on Wednesday, The Associated Press reported.
A NATO spokesman said the planes won’t cross into airspace belonging to Ukraine or Russia. Lt. Col. Jay Janzen said in the AP report that at least one operation has already been flown over Romania, and plenty more were in the works.
