AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - A mill in Maine’s poorest county is getting two new tissue machines and 80 new jobs.
Republican Gov. Paul LePage announced the expansion of the Baileyville Pulp Mill facility on Wednesday, alongside lawmakers and paper industry officials.
The $120 million investment from International Grand Investment Corp. is expected to bring as many as 80 new jobs and up to 300 indirect jobs to Washington County. The first machine is expected to be running by the end of 2015 and the second machine by the first part of 2016.
LePage said the two tissue machines, which have been in the works for several years, are the first new technology investments in the state’s paper industry in decades.
Lawmakers praised the investment as a wonderful opportunity to bring jobs to their communities.
