The northern California headquarters of Facebook was put in lockdown mode late on Tuesday after police received a threat that led to the detainment and search of all employees.
The threat, which was of unspecified nature, was ultimately found to be not credible.
San Jose Mercury News reported that police actually swarmed the Menio Park campus and closed off its entrance with tape. The threat was first called in about 7 p.m. local time to the San Francisco Police Department, but was then transferred to the Menio Park police to investigate, The Associated Press reported.
“At this point, we’re not even sure the call was meant to be for the Menio Park campus,” said Cmdr. Dave Bertini, to the AP.
Employees were detained for almost two hours, NBC News reported.
