RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - Riverside County has approved a plan to more than double the number of vineyards in Temecula’s wine country, hoping to convert the region into a resort hub.
The Press-Enterprise reports (https://bit.ly/1oMwMhB ) that the county Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted unanimously for the expansion in a bid to lure hotels, restaurants and concert halls to the area.
The move is expected to boost the number of area wineries to 95 on nearly 18,000 acres.
The plan still faces several hurdles, including the construction of a 10-mile sewer line and a lawsuit over a property exclusion granted for a local church to expand.
The church says it will also plant grapes on its property to comply with the rules for new vineyards.
